Ordered Two Pairs of Cliftons the Morning the Sale Opened, Saved About $50 a Pair

In a shoe sale the common sizes go first, so by day four the 40% is still advertised and your size is gone. Vlingo flagged HOKA's Summer Kickoff the morning it started. Cliftons are normally around $150 and catching the sale brings them close to $100.
“The email isn't telling you about a discount. It's telling you the clock has started.”
Ten and a half is the worst size to be in a shoe sale
Running shoes are a size problem more than a price problem. The common sizes sell first, and what's left after a few days is the very big and the very small, which can sit there for weeks.
The 40% is still there, your size isn't
So if the sale starts on the Monday and I hear about it on the Friday, the 40 percent is still there. It's just that everything in my size has gone. You can have a size five or a size thirteen at 40 percent off, which nobody wanted anyway.
I got the Vlingo nudge the morning it started and ordered before work.
Two pairs of the same shoe
I bought two pairs of the same shoe, because I know I'll want them and they won't be there in March. My husband thinks it's unhinged behavior. Cliftons are normally about a hundred and fifty dollars and if you actually catch a sale you end up paying somewhere near a hundred, so the saving is worth it. They don't discount often either, it's not a brand that's permanently on sale.
The email isn't announcing a discount, it's starting a clock
Anything sold in sizes works this way. The discount doesn't run out, the inventory does, and it runs out unevenly depending on how ordinary your feet are. Without the nudge I'd be reading about it on day four and have already missed it.
